Sports Medicine Contact Information

Healthcare is one of the most important aspects of a student-athlete's life. The Lipscomb University sports medicine staff and facility is committed to providing student athletes with the best quality care for treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Head Athletic Trainer William Ness and assistants Eric Owens, Shelley McDaniel, and Anthony Robertson are all certified athletic trainers by the National Athletic Trainers' Association. They work on a daily basis to care for all aspects of the Lipscomb University student athletes' health and well-being. They are assisted by a part-time physical therapist and numerous physicians and specialists through Baptist Hospital, Baptist Sports Medicine, Elite Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, and Nashville Medical Group.

The athletic training room is located in the lower level of Allen Arena. In 2000 when Allen Arena was constructed, a 4,700 sq. ft. state of the art athletic training facility was designed. The athletic training room consists of separate areas for taping, treatment, and rehabilitation. The taping area allows adequate space for all student-athletes to be taped prior to competition. The treatment area consists of nine treatment tables alongside top of the line modality machines.

The rehabilitation area is equipped with a StairMaster, Biodex, treadmill, elliptical trainer, upper body ergometer, and exercise bikes in addition to a variety of weights, resistance bands, medicine balls, and other rehabilitation equipment which can be used to facilitate injury rehabilitations. The rehabilitation area is large enough to allow for sport-specific exercises and functional testing. In addition, the athletic training room has an enclosed hydrotherapy room with a large full body whirlpool and three smaller extremity whirlpools.

There are also private offices for each staff athletic trainer as well as the physicians, to allow for one-on-one consultation and evaluation when needed. A large conference room with computers and a sports medicine library completes the athletic training facility, allowing space for work and research by staff.

The Lipscomb University sports medicine staff strives to provide the best medical care possible to each of its student athletes. The state of-the-art athletic training facility represents the University's commitment to allowing this goal to be achieved.
