Cara Wilber led the Lady Bisons over Campbell Saturday

Lady Bisons Volleyball Wins Fifth in a Row

Lipscomb's Lady Bisons soccer team left North Carolina with two Atlantic Sun match victories packed in the bus.

"Campbell is a tough place to play," sad Lady Bisons Coach Brandon Rosenthal. "It's hot. The gym is small. And the crowd is really loud. It's hard to do what we did there."

The Lady Bisons rallied to take a 3-2 victory over Campbell Saturday night after beating Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Friday. The Lady Bisons have won four straight conference matches and five games in a row.

"This team is really showing its character," said Rosenthal. "The hard work we put in has started paying off. It's pretty awesome."

The Lady Bisons won the first game 30-22, lost the second game 30-28, won the third game 30-23 and fell 30-22 in game four to set up a fifth game, a 15-10 decision.

"It was a good match," Rosenthal said. "We were in control. We lost game two because we let it get away from us. We were a little tired in game four. I'm proud of our players and how we came back."

It was the fifth time this season the Lady Bisons have played a five-game match. They are 3-2 in those matches with victories over Lamar, Stetson and Campbell and losses to Samford and Tennessee State.

In game five the Lady Bisons watched an 8-5 lead evaporate into a 9-9 tie. The Lady Bisons took control by winning the next five points.

Freshman Jessica Turner continues to be a major contributor. She was credited with a season-and-career-high 20 kills and a ,316 hitting percentage.

"Jessica is really showing us what she is able to do," Rosenthal said. "She is coming into her own. She is showing everyone why we recruited her."

Rosenthal stressed that everyone on the team contibuted with Cara Wilbur putting together another double-double with a match-high 23 digs and 13 kills. Alex Scruggs finished with 13 kills and a .207 hitting percentage. Lindsey Rutherford completed another double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Ann Mullins made 16 digs and served up five aces.

"We did a nice job defensively," Rosenthal said. "Everybody played. I'm happy with everyone on the team."

The Lady Bisons were strong offensively as well, finishing with 70 kills compared to Campbell's 53.

The Lady Bisons are 8-13 overall, 4-0 in the conference. Campbell is 8-13, 1-3 in the A-Sun.

The next game for the Lady Bisons is Thursday when they travel down the boulevard to face Belmont.
